Active Travel Maps for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) provide hospital and community health care services for Colchester, Ipswich and local areas. ESNEFT is the largest NHS organisation in the region and employs more than 11,000 staff.
Funded by Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity, ESNEFT have published an active travel map for each hospital encouraging staff to travel actively to and from work, and to take a break outdoors during the day.
Each leaflet includes three breaktime leg-stretchers – short circular walks from each site – together with practical tips and advice on cycling and walking.
National Cycle Network Route 1 passes both of the hospitals meaning that cycling to work from surrounding settlements could be a viable option for some staff. Both maps show the nearest rail station for those travelling by train. The Trust and the local authorities – Colchester Borough Council and Suffolk County Council – support walking and cycling to help people reduce their dependency on the car for every day journeys, reducing the negative impact of congestion and poor air quality for everyone.

Bedford is a lovely place to cycle around, with some great on and off-road cycle routes and is mostly flat, making it suitable for every level of cyclist.
